Irish Literature Paper Essay

Olivia Barragree Mr. Green Irish Literature 3 17 February 2013 Irish Love In twentieth Century Ireland, the act of marriage stayed extremely exacting because of the strict measures of the time. Most of the Irish populace remained carefully Roman Catholic while a little populace in the north stayed Protestant. The Roman Catholic view on marriage stays to be that marriage should remain inside the religion and be deep rooted, or may you endure until the very end. With separate from evacuated as a possibility for the ladies of the time, and the desire that a lady would get hitched before throughout everyday life, it turned into nothing unexpected that numerous ladies got discontent with their adoration lives. James Joyce’s Dubliners, an assortment of short stories, recounts to the miserable romantic tales of man Irish ladies of the time. These accounts demonstrate that ladies, whose solitary objective becomes to get hitched like society instructed them to do as such at that point, will wind up eventually stuck in a long lasting quest for joy in strict love that drives them to urgency. One of the most youthful romantic tales in the book introduces itself in the account of â€Å"Eveline†. In this story Eveline, a high school young lady, ends up battling to make her best course of action throughout everyday life. She yearns for the love of Frank, her mariner, yet feels clashed about what her relationship with him involves. Eveline doesn't have a simple home life, which settles on her choice to leave with her sweetheart even more troublesome. Eveline lives and inhales the destitution stricken existence of numerous Dubliners, and for her this remaining parts natural and convention. Fleeing with a mariner to a faraway land would not be endorsed of by anybody in the town of Dublin. Her yearning to get hitched and have a typical life drives her to make arrangements to leave the nation and abscond. From the start she accepts that it will be something to be thankful for when she says, â€Å"Then she would be marriedâ€she, Eveline. Individuals would approach her with deference then† (21). Eveline accepts that finding wedded will be the solution to every last bit of her issues on the grounds that customarily marriage would be the main thing that should matter to a lady throughout everyday life. In this time, getting hitched implied relinquishing everything about your past life in the quest for joy inside somebody else’s life. The distinction in Eveline’s story turns into that she has such a significant number of others relying upon her as of now, and to absolutely surrender her past life would be a monstrous penance. Eveline has numerous more youthful kin who depend on her as a substitute mother, because of the way that her mom had spent a couple of years prior. Eveline must assistance additionally to accommodate the family since her dad has little drive and invests the majority of his energy drinking and manhandling the youngsters. With such a significant number of individuals depending on her the choice to leave and do what most ladies of her age would do turns out to be much harder. In her period of scarcity Eveline, â€Å"prayed to god to guide her, to give her what was her duty† (23). Eveline holds confidence in God, as most Irish did at that point, and her choice would be made by what she figures God would undoubtedly favor of. Despite the fact that Eveline’s religion would endorse of marriage, in this case her marriage would remove her from the individuals who keep her inside the religion. An elopement at the time would have been disapproved of, and despite the fact that Eveline adored Frank she realized that God would not endorse of what she was doing. Her quest for bliss was a frantic endeavor to get hitched and get away from the existence she lived. Despite the fact that Eveline didn't follow the way that most ladies would have, it turns out to be evident that ladies of the time were forced to wed and penance everything for the man they picked. Eveline’s sweetheart would not have been the perfect decision for run of the mill bliss for the Dublin lady, and this limitation set up by the congregation drives Eveline to remain where her convictions and legacy are profoundly established. Eveline will consume her time on earth seeking after a bliss that can't exist with the limitations set up upon the individuals inside Dublin. In the following story of youthful love, â€Å"The Boarding House†, we go over a lady raising her two youthful grown-up youngsters in a lodging. Ms. Mooney, the lady, experienced a terrible division in the wake of being caught in a damaging marriage with a boozer for quite a long while, and this very relationship has left her all alone to fight for her family with the benefits from the motel. Ms. Mooney is shunned by numerous individuals in the general public, and many accept she wasn't right to leave her marriage and they scrutinize her endeavor to maintain her own business. Ms. Mooney’s youthful girl stays youthful and by and large glad throughout everyday life, except she is by all accounts coquettish with most the men who live in the lodging. Her mom from the outset attempts to dispense with this issue by sending Polly to work in the city, yet over the long haul she gradually lets her move once again into the lodging. Ms. Mooney sees a relationship starting to create among Polly and a man who might lose his notoriety if individuals somehow happened to get some answers concerning the issue, however as opposed to attempting to stop the relationship she screens as though she is trusting that something will occur between them. With the connections before she had consistently drove Polly away from the men, however Ms. Mooney, â€Å"knew that the youngsters were just relaxing endlessly: none of them implied business† (40). She realized that this man would feel liable for his activities, and on the off chance that he attempted to flee from his issues, his manager would without a doubt fire him since his supervisor of thirteen years was an incredible Catholic wine dealer. Because of the religion and social assessment of the time the man is constrained into his choice of wedding Polly. Ms. Mooney accepted that, â€Å"For her, just a single reparation could compensate for the loss of her daughter’s respect: marriage† (40). Much after Ms. Mooney needed to endure the most exceedingly terrible conceivable marriage, she despite everything wants for the marriage of her girl. This may appear to be astounding to current perspectives, yet at the time it was smarter to be hitched and hopeless than single. The strict strength of the time constrained numerous youthful couples like Polly and Mr. Dorian in to marriage that would in all probability bring about a miserable life. At the point when we run over the dismal story of â€Å"A Painful Case† this is the place the social weights of the opportunity truly arrive in to play. The principle character of this short story, Mr. Duffy, is a man who, â€Å"wished to live beyond what many would consider possible from the city of which he was a resident and in light of the fact that he discovered the various rural areas of Dublin mean, present day, and pretentious† (70). This man despises every one of that was Dublin of the time since he accepts that the individuals kept up specific thoughts and were genuinely mean about the manner by which they made a decision about others assessments. This man accepted that, â€Å"No social upheaval would probably strike Dublin for some centuries† (72). This announcement of this one man’s assessments shows that many accepted that Dublin would consistently have a similar mentality about social issues regardless of whether innovation would go to the city life. Dubliners were individuals endeavoring to push ahead, however who were kept down by social and strict traditions. This reasoning becomes tested when Mr. Duffy meets a lady who will before long become his scholarly buddy, Mrs. Sinico, whom stays a wedded lady. At the point when the relationship starts they talk about things, for example, theory or books, however over the long haul it turns out to be certain that a closeness will be included. Mrs. Sinico carries on with a dismal existence with her better half who fills in as a dealer. This man doesn't dedicate whenever to his family or spouse and no longer feels any kind of adoration to this lady. Their relationship has lost its motivation, yet because of the guidelines of society of the time they should remain together regardless of whether she and Mr. Duffy were more qualified for one another. At the point when Mr. Duffy and Mrs. Sinico’s relationship raises to a dash of a hand to a cheek one night they understand that what they do will bring them social exclusion, so , â€Å"They consented to sever their intercourse: each bond, he stated, is an attach to sorrow† (73). By severing the association between the two, Mr. Duffy accepts he will make the best choice since it will take out the worthless aching they have for each other. The part that he fails to see turns into the way that distress will stay in Mrs. Sinico’s relationship with her significant other. Mr. Duffy’s talk monstrous truth in the life of Mrs. Sinico in light of the fact that each bond she attempts to frame with men drives her to gigantic distress. This distress turns into her definitive death as the agony turns out to be a lot for her and she settles on the decision to end it all by bouncing before a recently manufactured cable car. Mr. Duffy finds out about the self destruction in the paper one night as he sits at the coffee shop alone, and now he is blasted with huge distain for the lady who murdered herself. Mr. Duffy, trying to manage the torment of misfortune starts to attempt to accuse Mrs. Sinico and lose control with her for murdering herself since she was not, at this point upbeat without him. Mr. Duffy gets loaded up with huge blame and should figure out how to adapt. The distress out of nowhere hits him however when he says, â€Å"One individual had appeared to adore him and he had denied her life and happiness† (77). He feels just as the passing was his issue and that he ought to have spared her from enduring her miserable life, however because of the social demeanor of the time he settled on an inappropriate choice. He left this lady to endure in a real existence that was probably picked because of a more youthful woman’s edginess to get hitched and follow the act of such a large number of other ladies of the time. These social acts of marriage left her looking for an approach to joy that she would never have. Her marriage that she was unable to get away from caught her from the outside world which could satisfy her. The narrative of â€Å"The

Capital Aasset Pricing Model and Techniques

Question: Talk about the Capital Aasset Pricing Model and Techniques. Answer: Presentation: Before understanding the relationship of affectability examination to capital planning it is essential to comprehend the idea of capital planning and affectability investigation. Capital planning is a method which encourages the organizations to bring choices with respects putting into a task or not. Essentially it assists with deciding the speculation that a substance needs to make in a specific venture and the normal income and salary that the undertaking will create in future for the element. Affectability investigation is only a technique which assists with breaking down the equivalent in detail so an increasingly trustworthy choice can be taken with respects the equivalent. Affectability examination encourages the association to check into different situations and conditions with respects the undertaking in the event that the appraisals and conditions don't become alright and get undependable. It is essentially changing the suppositions and applying a hit and preliminary strategy to the counts premise the changed presumptions to discover the normal outcome out of such a change. In this manner as such the leaders can really think about before putting resources into their cash (Koening, 2015). They can come to realize what misfortunes they may need to endure by putting resources into any venture premise this suspicions and gauge. The said investigation features upon the alteration in the information that would influence the net outcome from any task. Change is consistent and henceforth varieties will happen to the base assumptions and it is this adjustment which the affectability examination insights concerning. It assists with discovering the most good degrees of contributions to a venture. Thusly this is a factual investigation of the information premise changes in the numbers, for example, amount and costs. Along these lines affectability examination insights regarding finding the degree to which changes can be made to the information factors with the goal that a definitive outcome stays unaltered. Therefore affectability examination helps in capital planning as a result of the accompanying reasons: Aides in taking an increasingly steady choice and in this manner testing the outcomes in a progressively itemized way. Assists with recognizing mistakes and subsequently attempt to relieve the equivalent Assists with building up the model all the more precisely by distinguishing mistakes and attempting to discover answer for moderate those blunders. Build up a will sewed linkage between the info and the yield factors. Along these lines it is comprehended that the fundamental motivation behind this examination isn't evaluate hazard yet to make certain the responsiveness of the NPVs to the different factors which help to figure it. The equivalent is on the grounds that NPV is determined premise suspicions which is the reason the situation where capital planning choices are taken is unsure (Zhamoida, Matsiuk, 2011). It is the most satisfactory technique for examination of different changes individually in the factors and the suppositions being made which would thus have an orientation on the income and the arrival from a venture. Idea of Scenario Analysis comparable to Capital Budgeting Techniques As the name propose, situation investigation helps in considering capital planning choices and procedures by taking unusual potential outcomes. The examination is led in a manner which would assist with discovering the net outcome because of an activity or action under different other arrangement of variables, for example, how a NPV of a task would contrast if the expansion shoots up or down. Anyway it is similarly critical to realize that situation ought to be such which can exist in genuine sense and not anecdotal in nature. For the most part three sorts of situations are viewed as acceptable, base and most noticeably awful for registering the NPVs of a venture (Boundless.com., 2012). It is an expository instrument not at all like the affectability examination which utilizes factual device. After the NPVs are processed then a likelihood of event of such a situation is assigned to ease circumstance and afterward the normal NPV and standard deviation of the NPV is determined. This is known as coefficient variety and a CV of 1 is viewed as perfect. Anyway on looking at the two CV premise the situation then the one with a lower CV is viewed as more best than the one with a higher CV. Along these lines it very well may be said that situation investigation in spite of the fact that is likewise a social methodology like affectability examination yet the previous characterizes the capital planning strategies all the more comprehensively. It thinks about different factors together, for example, money inflows, outpourings and cost related with capital contributed. For instance a substance should mull over both high and low inflationary factors and process the ramifications of the equivalent on the undertakings Net present worth. Every circumstance will influence all the previously mentioned factors simultaneously in this manner coming about into varying degrees of NPV. Along these lines giving the leaders a progressively itemized strategy for breaking down the capital planning procedures utilized by associations before putting into a venture. Moreover situation examination utilized in different capital planning procedures assists with giving an outline about the hazard related with the different resources wherein the benefits with higher hazard will have increasingly unpredictable qualities and the other way around. Situation investigation involves how much monetary sense does it make in putting into any task for an association. Further by doing the examination thinking about the most exceedingly terrible situation too, one can take proactive measures to attempt to decrease the dangers related with the most noticeably terrible situation (Kengatharan, 2016). Along these lines on a summing up note one can say that situation investigation helps in itemizing ventures during circumstances which are even troublesome in nature. It assists with discovering arrangements during most pessimistic scenarios likewise along these lines attempting to consider interest in different tasks minutely. Meaning of the Capital Asset Pricing Model: The said model is based on the Markowitzs mean-change proficiency model where the benefactors who are hesitant towards facing challenge on ventures are concerned distinctly about the profits and the benefits they anticipate from their speculation and the distinction of profits and hazard. Therefore the said model characterizes the linkage between the arrival and hazard related with a benefit. It empowers assurance of the proper required pace of return of a benefit yet just in principle. It assists with accepting calls about expansion of advantages or greater venture protections to a previously expanded portfolio (Fama French, 2004). The graphical portrayal of the formulae of CAPM is known as the security showcase line. Meaning of Capital Market line: The Capital Market Line is plotted on the capital resource valuing model which assists with delineating the pace of return that could be relied upon to get from an all around constructed portfolio however relying fair and square of hazard related with the arrangement of the whole market and the hazard free pace of return. It is a deviation from the purpose of capture attempt found on the effective boondocks extended towards the arrival anticipated from a venture which is comparable to the hazard free pace of return. There lie various contrasts between the two referenced terms. Similitudes additionally exist however the equivalent is not very many in contrast with the distinctions. The similitudes between a CAPM and CML would be talked about as a relationship that exists between the Capital market line and the Security advertise line which is a graphical portrayal of the CAPM. The SML is viewed as an indispensable piece of the CML in a Capital Asset Pricing Model explicitly when the hazard appended to a security or a speculation is figured. Their relationship portrays the likeness as one shows the hazard related with singular protections while the different considers these individual protections and structures the whole portfolio. Along these lines execution of a solitary security will affect the presentation of the portfolio too. Consequently we can say that both these assistance to delineate the relationship of hazard with different speculation protections just as portfolio in general. Therefore the likeness is with the end goal that both the CML and SML theorize a straight line relationship among hazard and return. The CML and SML likewise discusses efficien t dangers and portfolios which are without hazard despite the fact that the SML incorporates the wasteful portfolios too. Similarly as their exists a connection among CAPM and CML because of similitudes between the two, comparably the two ideas vary among one another for different reasons outlined beneath. The CML is a line that portrays the pace of return which is reliant upon the pace of return which is liberated from satisfactory hazard and the degree of hazard for different venture gatherings. Anyway CAPM or the SML line used to speak to the CAPM formulae is a graphical introduction of the hazard and return in a market at a specific purpose of time. The estimation of hazard factors is another contrast between the two ideas. The CML utilizes standard deviation to check chance while for CAPM the hazard factors are solidified by means of the beta coefficients. Along these lines the previous is an estimation premise which hazard is determined in totality while the later tells about the commitment of the security or the speculation towards the hazard on the whole portfolio. CML depicts just portfolios which are equipped and capable though the Security Market Line used to delineate the CAPM, depicts both capable and non-skilled portfolios. While ascertaining the arrival, the Y Axis portrays the arrival foreseen from a portfolio if there should be an occurrence of a CML and the arrival that the individual ventures gives are appeared by the Y pivot in the event of the SML. The X pivot of CML portrays the standard deviation though the X hub of the SML delineates the Beta of the offers and individual speculations. The two pivot is all around portrayed in the charts underneath of both CML and SML wherein the even hub of the SML delineates the systematic hazard and that of CML is by and large hazard. The CML sets up the arrangement of the whole market and such resources which are liberated from any dangers,

In this way, it helps the company concentrate on its strengths and recover lost ground in the market , thus bringing itself into an advantageous position with respect to its competitors.Reduces cost of production: BI significantly saves time and reduces labor costs by:Automating the process of data management;Automating and simplifying the report generation process;Reducing costs of training.Enables objective-oriented approach: BI helps organizations in adapting an object-oriented approach by defining and centralizing all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). BI also helps in setting targets and benchmarks and aligning the company in their direction. Additionally, BI sets priorities for tasks and helps employees in focusing on the most critical processes.Brings discipline to data collection: Disciplined data collection is one of the primary requirements of any organization. BI lays emphasis on focusing on the correct metrics during data collection. BI makes it possible to organize otherwise unmanageable data into controllable streams and to put it into radical uses.BUSINESS INTELLIGEN CE ESSENTIALSCategories of BI solutions differentiated by the purposeBusiness Intelligence can be classified into four categories based on its purpose. They are:Real-time: Real-time BI is often described with a modifier such as quasi or human. It provides up-to-date data by directly interacting with operational systems. In this way, Real-time BI facilitates quick decision-making. Real-time BI combines the data warehousing advantages of classical systems with real-time, event-driven strategies of tactical BI.Tactical: Also known as task-oriented or task-centric BI, tactical BI deals with the current state of affairs. It trains managers to observe changes in the current business environment and discover new opportunities as they arrive. Tactical BI is action-oriented and not plan-oriented. It helps decide the action steps necessary to achieve the companys objectives. Tactical BI warrants optimum utilization of available resources and keeps the company battle-ready to deal with risk si tuations. Tactical BI tools clean data and improve its quality. They are highly updatable and future-compatible.Investigative: Investigative BI or exploratory BI makes use of dashboards. It is an open-ended system where the primary goal is to investigate or explore data for clues, like patterns and irregularities. These clues are then used to formulate queries or establish correlations, giving rise to a hypothesis. Subsequent investigations make it possible to improve the queries and strengthen correlations.Traditional: Traditional BI is traditionally based on KPI dashboards. It primarily deals with historical data. This historical data is stored centrally and is readily available at hand to aid in decision-making and getting better outcomes. Over the period of several decades, this data becomes highly standardized and mature. However, since this type of data only provides an insight into the past and is not forward-looking, there is a high risk of new arbitrary opportunities being overlooked. Thus, this type of BI system is not effective in a scenario where the future is unpredictable or difficult to anticipate and deviates from historical patterns.Types of Business Intelligence SolutionsThere are several types of BI solutions and tools. They are:Spreadsheets: Spreadsheets are a form of visual and interactive data organization and management interface in tabular form. Examples such as MS Excel enable users to store alphanumeric data in cells and apply standard formulae to them for calculations. Spreadsheets are very easy to use and most of them allow additional features like graphs and charts, pivot tables and macros.Reporting Software: Reporting software accumulates and manages data and creates easily-readable reports based on the data. A wide range of free and commercial reporting software is available.Online analytical processing (OLAP): OLAP helps solve multi-dimensional queries effectively and quickly. Apart from business reporting, OLAP is used for the purposes of marketing, sales, budget-making, planning and forecasting.Data mining: Data mining is the process of determining patterns in large groups of data. It helps users in finding relevant information in a large pool of data without having to waste time in browsing through unwanted information.Data warehousing: A data warehouse is a data reporting and analysis tool that stores both current and historical data. The data is sourced from various operational systems.Process mining: Process mining is a kind of management solution that uses event logs to evaluate business processes. These event logs are typically documented by an information system.Digital dashboards: A digital dashboard is a simple, easy to interpret digital interface that provides a graphical representation of data. Typically, digital dashboards come in the form of web pages, linked to an information database.Decision engineering: Decision engineering is an arrangement that utilizes the benefits of an array of best practices to aid in business decision-making. In this arrangement, the decisions are represented by a visual decision language.Customer intelligence: Customer intelligence is the process of collecting customer details such as preferences, needs, and behaviors so as to better understand customers and forge stronger business relationships.Business performance management: Business performance management is a set of analytical tools that helps businesses reach their short and long-term goals by managing company performance.HOW TO IMPLEMENT BI IN YOUR BUSINESS STEP-BY-STEP PROCESSImplementing Business Intelligence in your business involves a series of successive steps. These steps should help BI bring in the following advantages to your business:Help in better decision-makingIncrease operational efficiency of the organizationGive the business a competitive edge over its rivalsIncrease turnover and profitsEnhance quality of customer serviceThe steps are described below.Step 1: Defining the Objective and Purpose of BI in Your BusinessAnalyzing BI systems will reveal various perspectives. It is vital to the success of the organization that Business Intelligence is in sync with the overall philosophy of the organization. Since BI plays a dominant role in decision-making, it should be implemented in such a way that it helps to determine the objectives of the organization and accurately realize them.BI should serve the following purposes in your business:Collect and consolidate raw data: Raw data is data that is obtained from a source, and that has not been processed. It is also known as primary data.Analyze data and report information: During data analysis, raw data is examined, cleaned, processed and transformed into information.Drill information to gather knowledge: Information is processed to obtain knowledge. This knowledge forms the basis of decisions.Convert knowledge into decisions: The knowledge gathered by processing information is used in decision-making. De cision-making involves the selection of a course of action from several alternatives.Step 2: Identification and Preparation of Source DataSource data or atomic data is nothing but raw data that has not yet been processed to derive information. Source data is extracted, processed and organized into information. Processed source data is usually stored in a database.Identifying End User RequirementsIn any organization, there are different units with different responsibility areas. The end users in each of these units or departments perform various functions. So, it is very important to understand how these end users will analyze and interpret this data. The correct approach to identifying end user requirements is to extensively interview the end users. Interviews will help collect data, like how much  information the end user possesses, what additional information he needs  to be provided with and what format would be most suitable for him to receive the information in.We have identifie d some of the specific requirements of different end users below.Board of Directors: The board of directors requires information on areas  such as competitive analysis, trend analysis, Key Performance Indicator tracking and exception reporting.Administrative Planning and Analysis: This unit is concerned with  information pertaining to assessment of investments made and acquisitions  undertaken, long-term planning, reorganization, allocation of company resources, and general planning in important areas like human resources and  production capacity.Finance Department: The requirements of the finance department are based on budgeting, consolidation, capital management, variance analysis, financial modeling and modeling assets and liabilities.Sales and Marketing Department: The sales and marketing department is the one closest to the customers, so its requirements have to do mostly with customer profiling, profitability, distributions and overall sales performance.Identifying Data Sourc esOnce the requirements of the end users are established, it becomes  important to find solutions to those requirements. This can be done by identifying data sources. Often times, the data is found in the company databases. However, in certain cases, the required data isnt available in the databases. In such instances, the data can either be sourced from outside, or if that is not feasible, then a request is made to the concerned end users to modify their requirements.Step 3: Designing the Data ModelA data model is designed to cater to the requirements of the end users, so it should be competent enough to assess the needs and expectations of its end users. Also, the data model must be designed in such a way that the end user is able to identify with the business terminologies used in the model. While designing the data model, the emphasis should be on capturing all possible relationships within the data model it is a strenuous and time-consuming task no doubt, but it has to be done. A well-designed data model takes into account all the errors and discrepancies and enables users to make changes before the model is implemented. There are various approaches to data model design. They are:Conceptual Data Modeling: This approach identifies the high-level relationships between various entities.Enterprise Data Modeling: This approach concentrates on the unique requirements of a particular business process.Logical Data Modeling: This approach helps in the creation of a physical data model by exemplifying the entities, traits and relationships pertaining to a particular business function.Physical Data Modeling: A physical data model creates a physical and database-specific model, based on a logical model.Step 4: Selecting BI ToolsSelecting appropriate Business Intelligence tools is one of the most important steps in BI implementation. Only with the right set of tools will it be possible for a business to correctly measure and manage their goals and take steps to handle e xceptions whenever they arise. In smaller entities with a simple data flow, spreadsheets are generally adequate in providing a feasible solution. However, in the case of larger companies, many more services and products are offered and as such, the data flow is much too complex to be managed by a spreadsheet. In such cases, specialized BI tools are necessary. These BI tools are function-specific, that is, they cater to the requirements of specific departments.Conversely, certain BI tools like data warehousing take on a more generalized approach. These tools can be modified to suit the requirements of individual departments. Certain ERP and CRM solutions providers offer pre-integrated BI solutions that help to reduce deployment time. These days, a lot of solutions are offered specifically for small and medium businesses. Many of these are either free or offer free trials.Step 5: Designing and Implementing BIDesigning and implementing Business Intelligence systems is an extensive proces s. The primary requirement in developing such systems is for organizations to be able to work with IT and information in general. Here are some important steps to follow while building a BI system:Extensive research should be carried out to correctly asses the organizations requirements. While assessing requirements, it is extremely important to consider future requirements alongside current requirements. It is mandatory to involve end users in both the design and implementation phases. It is equally important to involve departments such as IT and Knowledge Management in these phases. It is important to select data sources at this stage. Once data sources are identified, data models can be built, and data stores created.Data should be processed to make information accessible to clients.Information sharing is one of the primary components of any BI model. Information sharing takes care of all exchanges of data within the system via various protocols.Analytical capability is of great imp ortance to the success of a BI model. Analysis should be correctly interpreted and should be properly integrated within the management system.Along with delivering the BI model, it is mandatory to grant access rights to all concerned departments and individuals.Step 6: Discovering and Exploring New Informational Needs and Business Applications and PracticesDesigning a BI model is a continuous learning process. As the information is analyzed, newer learning and insight is gained. As newer informational needs are discovered and explored, newer methods of information management have to be devised. At this stage, cyclic methodologies and procedures such as iterative designing and Rapid Application Development (RAD) come into play. These tools help in creating a prototype of a BI environment, based on which a new, refined BI application can be created.Of course, this discovery and exploration phase calls for full assistance and cooperation from all concerned departments, including IT and Knowledge Management.Implementing Business Intelligence models into your organization has certain pre-conditions. They are:Efforts should be made to ensure that the data is accurate and workable.A lot of effort has to be put to train end users and all individuals concerned on using the BI system effectively.Reports can never be perfected at one go. So rather than allocating a lot of time to developing the perfect BI model, it is better to deploy a workable system as quickly as possible and then adjust and make changes and corrections along the way.The primary focus before building the BI system is to calculate returns on investment. For all intents and purposes, the BI model has to be in touch with reality.BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE TOOLSThere are thousands of effective Business Intelligence tools available on the market. We will discuss some of the most popular ones.Microsoft Excel: Microsoft Excel is the most popular BI tool. Essentially a simple spreadsheet, Excel has numerous integra ted features like mathematical formulae, pivot tables, visual charts and conditional formatting. Whats more, Excel spreadsheets are highly compatible with most personal computers, smartphones, and tablets. Also, Excel is relatively inexpensive.OLAP Tools: OLAP tools are used by advanced users. â€Å"It’s down to seven seconds. You see the time†¦Whittenburg†¦. Oh it’s a long ways, Oh he’s there! They won it†¦on a dunk!† Billy Packer said this when covering the historical run by the NC State Wolfpack to win the Division 1 NCAA tournament in a dramatic fashion. A team with no chance of making the tournament, let alone winning the championship, does the impossible and wins the NCAA Division 1 championship. Despite NC State being a smaller school compared to the big basketball powerhouses like Virginia, UNC, Houston and many others, they had players work and will their way to the finish line. If players were paid, you wouldn’t see players like Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, or Ralph Sampson on different teams. It would be the college with the most money, could pay the best student-athletes, the most money and Cinderella stories for the most part would disappear. Dynasties of college sports would be made. Money would r uin college sports more than it already has. It has already stripped championships, ruined players images and futures, and tarnished reputations of colleges. The Fab 5, the near â€Å"3-Pete† for Oklahoma University, and the USC Trojans football team scandal, are just a few instances where college sports were affected wrongly by the idea of â€Å"play for pay.† Colleges and Universities should not pay students to participate in college sports because of all the benefits the athletes receive, the fact that the colleges wouldn’t be able to pay for otherShow MoreRelatedShould College Sports Be Paid?1680 Words   |  7 Pagesknown as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (â€Å"NCAA†) (Gregory). They are people who like to detect people and listen to what they have to state before they come to decision. I learn by detecting. I ever listen to people when they are talking to cognize what they are stating before coming to a decision. An illustration is when we have group activities in our talks or seminars, I normally listen to the thoughts of others first before I come up to thoughts of my ain. The Fear Of Fear The Fear of Fear In The Lord of the Flies, fear is the cause of all destruction and violence, which leads to savagery, and disobeying of human morals. Without the normal rules of society helping to guide them, they become disoriented with the new surroundings, therefore freighting them into savage ways. After the traumatic plane crash the boys became frightened because their world of comfort was no longer visible, and a dark scary place awaited their arrival. They start to dance and circle around the fire, meanwhile Simon knowing the truth about the beastie hurries to tell the boys, The circle became a horseshoe. A thing was crawling out of the forest. It came darkly, uncertainly. The shrill screaming that rose before the beast was like a pain. The beast stumbled into the horseshoe. Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood! Do him in!(Pg.152 Golding) The beast was now turned into innocent Simon and because of the fear inside the jungle, and inside themselves, Simon was brutally beaten and killed by the other boys as the mother pig was with her young. The killing of Simon showed how fear caused disorientation in reality. Simon having no fear, was the one who had the answer. The beast is within us; t here is nothing to fear. Simon used no violence and came face to face with the beast. He knew the truth. Bibliography The book Lord of the Flies English Essays

Cuban Missile Crissis essays

Cuban Missile Crissis essays Back in 1962 most people thought there could not be a nuclear war. It was a time occupied by the Cold War. They were wrong. The U.S.A, Soviet Union, and Cuban countries were so close they could feel nuclear war breathing down their necks. The people of the U.S. were so close to being incinerated, and they didn't even know it. The Soviets had such a build up of missiles in Cuba they could have wiped-out most of the continental United States. The build up of these missiles, and the problems faced in October of 1962 are known as the Cuban missile Crisis. On October twenty second, 1962, John F. Kennedy, who that evening revealed the presence of Soviet missiles on Cuba, the crisis was nearly a weak old. In President Kennedy ¹s television broadcast, he informed the population that U.S. surveillance of the Soviet military build-up on the island of Cuba had uncovered a series of offensive missile sites now in preparation to fire. This declared that the purpose of these bases could be none other than to provide a nuclear strike capability against the Western Hemisphere. Kennedy called for a prompt dismantling and withdrawal of all offensive weapons under the United Nations supervision. In one minor aspect, Kennedy was mistaken. The soviet decision only seemed sudden. Actually taken five months earlier, it was both a high-stakes gamble and the logical product of sustained provocation. More importantly, the President misread the Kremlin ¹s motives. Gaining a nuclear strike capability was not Khrushev ¹s only or main purpose. In Fact , the soviet leader had persuaded his politburo colleagues that U.S. aggression against Cuba was all too likely and could only be overcome by the installation of the medium-range R-12 ballistic missiles and intermediate-range R-14 ballistic missiles and that specially trained people had to go Cuba to make them operational. Between October fourteenth and October twenty-eighth 1962 the world was never closer to ...

Writing effective marketing materials, Medtech Business - Emphasis

Writing effective marketing materials, Medtech Business Writing effective marketing materials, Medtech Business Medical technologies may cross language barriers, but words are the building blocks of a marketing message. Rob Ashton of Emphasis explains how mastering writing skills can help you target and influence the right people. Your company has created an exciting medical innovation. Lets say its a new technology that replaces faulty heart valves without the need for open-heart surgery. Its been patented and is ready to take the world by storm. Not only will it save lives, in the long run it will also save hospitals considerable time and money. The technology may be impressive, but convincing the relevant decision-makers to buy the product is easier said than done. As you know, healthcare is a fast-moving area and your innovation will be fighting for attention with the scores of new products, techniques and studies released every day. Your sales team will be promoting the benefits of the product in sales presentations and one-to-one meetings. You can pave the way by creating compelling marketing materials that will generate interest even excitement before those meetings take place. But simply making such material available wont guarantee that your message is heard. Most managers have a stack of reports, letters and e-mails to wade through on a daily basis. Reading a leaflet or letter on a new heart surgery technology may be the least of their priorities. Thats why your marketing materials need to be carefully crafted. They need to be written in language that prompts your reader to take action. A powerful, well-written document can make even the most harried managers sit up and take notice. It can convince them that they need your product. But it must address their needs, not yours. How can you write marketing materials that will really get your products noticed? Do the groundwork Whether youre writing a leaflet, a poster or web content, you need to prepare. Research your market fully before you start and make sure you understand all the challenges your prospects face. A nursing home will have different needs from an NHS hospital, for example. So avoid a one size fits all approach to your marketing. Keep your focus on the reader by asking yourself the following questions: What is the document about? Who will read it? How much do they already know about the subject? What do they absolutely need to know? How important is the subject to them? How interested are they in the subject? (Note that readers arent always interested in whats important to them. So you often need to make them interested.) Then grab a pen and paper and brainstorm all the ways that your product can help to meet your prospects challenges. Use the headings Who? What? Where? When? and Why? to help this process. Then use the information to write a set of powerful reasons why they should buy your product. Arrest the reader The seven steps below will help you to write effective leaflets, posters, sales letters and web content. Create a snappy headline Eye-scanning studies of website users by research body Eyetrack III have shown that people read only the first two words of a headline and ignore the introductory sections. So it is essential to create a compelling statement that will motivate people to read on. For example, a headline that reads Hospitals gain 20 more beds a week through nanotechnology is striking because of the first two words: hospitals are usually overcrowded, so this introduces a solution to a familiar problem. Find an angle Generate more interest by including facts and statistics that relate to the problems faced by your audience. Appeal to their logic and explain how your product makes a difference. For example, you could write: The new nanotechnology means patients spend 40% less time convalescing. Bite the bullet The Eyetrack III research also revealed that only one in six people actually read websites sentence by sentence. Naomi Baron, a linguistics professor at the American University in Washington DC, calls this the search and seize approach. Assuming that your readers will treat all your documents like this will help you to create clear written work. So include lots of bullet points and subheadings and use important words that your readers will be looking for. Make your writing as simple as possible, but dont be afraid to use jargon if youre certain your readers will understand it. Jargon can actually help to build rapport but its a fine balance between that and alienating some readers. Be active Use the active voice where possible. For instance, write You should notice a difference in three days rather than A difference within three days can be expected. Give proof Boost your credibility by using testimonials or endorsements where leading experts have spoken about the technology. Offer a next step Make sure you tell the reader what to do next. In a letter, you might ask them to call you for more information. Or a leaflet might direct them to your website. Keep it simple Always choose simple words over complicated ones. And if you cant say a sentence all in one breath, the chances are that its too long. Aim for a maximum of 1520 words per sentence. Mail mastery According to an Emphasis survey of 200 companies in the UK, senior managers say that at least a fifth of the e-mails they receive are poorly written. So remember to take as much care over your e-mails as you do with your other marketing materials. The first step is to create a descriptive subject line. For instance, Follow-up documents from 20 March meeting may be accurate but if your e-mail is designed to market a product, you need to be creative. Five ways hospitals can save 50 minutes a day should be intriguing enough to persuade a manager to open your e-mail. Structure your e-mail by following the SCRAP formula: Situation Start by explaining the situation (where they are). Complication Introduce the idea that theres a problem (why they cant stay there) they need to solve or a request they need to fulfil. Resolution State how you can resolve the problem or request. Its likely that your reader will be glad to see a practical, considered solution, whatever it is. Action Suggest what action the reader can or should take. Politeness End with a polite sign-off. Following this formula will help your readers to understand your message clearly. (You can apply the same principles to your follow-up letters.) It can be difficult to read lengthy documents on a PC. So if your message wont fit on one screen, use an attachment for the details. You can make the message easier to read by including subheadings. But take extra care with e-mails. Remember that its very easy for them to go viral. So only write what you dont mind having broadcast on the 10 OClock News. Hot news Having news reports or features appear in newspapers and magazines is an excellent way to build credibility with the people you want to influence. Press releases are the standard format for sending journalists news. But with so many in circulation, it can be difficult to get yours noticed. Journalists are also starting to bite back against releases that are poorly written, irrelevant to their needs or little more than thinly-veiled sales pitches. How do you get your press release to the top of the pile? The secret is to give journalists exactly what they want: a news story. The headline is the most important part of your document. Press releases can be very effective if you tie the headline to a topical event. For instance, Medical software helps Haiti earthquake victims is compelling because it ties the technology to a major global health crisis. And it presents a clear angle that makes people want to read on. Next, state the facts of the story. Get to the good stuff straight away, as journalists wont have time to wade through background information. Try to put the word today in the first sentence to show that its news. For example, you could write: Doctors implemented a patient database today in Haiti. If you cant say today then use the present perfect tense (Doctors have saved) rather than the past tense (Doctors saved) where possible, as the former implies something closer to the moment. After using the present perfect tense, use the future tense to show that you have your finger on the pulse. So you could write: Doctors will now be able to track patient progress 75% faster than before. Using figures in this way is very effective. But where possible, also include people in your document. So opt for One in four people will benefit rather than 25% will benefit. Finally, go back to your first sentence and ask yourself: So what? If you cant answer that, your message isnt compelling enough. Refine your document until youre convinced that its news that cannot be ignored. Think of writing marketing material as an investment. Dont be disheartened if a campaign doesnt immediately strike gold. Keep working on your writing style and aim to make it as punchy as possible. The more you practise, the more youll be able to write your way to marketing success. Rob Ashton is Chief Executive of Emphasis, the specialist business-writing trainers.

Discuss the careers of Julius Caesar and Octavian. What did their rise Essay

Discuss the careers of Julius Caesar and Octavian. What did their rise to power mean for the republican from of government What - Essay Example He not only created a central government in Rome but also suppressed all the armed resistance which was out in different provinces. The entire was knit into one cohesive unit by establishing a new constitution; Octavian was also very actively involved in all these efforts and deserves equal credit if not more. All these goals were accomplished by Caesar and Octavian when they comprehensively defeated Pompey and his allies. The Republican form of government could not do anything significant to stop Caesar and Octavian; Caesar decreased their power and kept increasing his power to become one of the most influential dictators of all time. Caesar reformed the calendar which is considered to be the most important of his reforms. â€Å"Caesar carried out his reforms in the traditional manner, in the centuriate and tribal assemblies, the senate and through edicts. He rarely tampered with the traditions of the Republic; only in his concepts of citizenship and the provinces did his visionary genius truly appear.

Columbus in History Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4250 words

Columbus in History - Research Paper Example The paper tells that the first contact that Columbus had with the Arawak’s was when he first landed at their beach on that Friday morning. He with his men observed that the ‘natives’, as he had yet to establish their cultural affiliation were, were Godless and very friendly people. From Columbus’ perspective, he was more intent on discovering new territories and gold for his king. He constantly talks of how he sights ‘new lands’ and keeps his thoughts on exploring these lands for purposes of conquering them for his kings occupation and his interest in these people is geared towards actualising this mission. He states that: â€Å"When we stepped ashore we saw fine green trees, streams everywhere and different kinds of fruit. I called to the two captains to jump ashore with the rest, who included Rodrigo de Escobedo, secretary of the fleet, and Rodrigo Sanchez de Segovia, asking them to bear solemn witness that in the presence of them all I was taking possession of this island for their Lord and Lady the King and Queen, and I made the necessary declarations which are set down at greater length in the written testimonies†. He observed that they were poor people in all respects based on their appearance and wore no form of clothing. Columbus being a Christian was quick to observe that these people could be easily converted to Christianity as they seemed bright and intelligent. He formed a bias against them based on the misconception that they thought he and his men were from ‘heaven’ and due to their obvious rudimentary social organisation and technological endowment; he thought he was better than them. He alludes to this by recording in his log that they would make good servants. 2 Explain why contact with Columbus is often cited as the beginning of history in the "New World" despite evidence of contact with other peoples and cultures in periods that predated Columbus. Columbus’ contact with the ne w world is often described as the beginning of the history of the new world because he was the first European documented explorer to set foot on the new world. His was a sanctioned exploration and he managed to keep records of the entire expedition through his log. Ideally, he is not the first ‘outsider’ to interact with the new world because recent anthropological and archaeological discoveries have unearthed the fact that there were human interactions with the new world from outsiders earlier than Columbus’ expedition. Traces of the great Vikings have been in areas of the new world that indicate they might have come here earlier than Columbus did. The only difference with Columbus is that he provided a detailed log and took back samples from the new world that spurred the interests of other explorers and this might even be said sparked off the scramble for the new world in a way. 3 Please explain how the histories and lives of very different indigenous communit ies are often subsumed by their identities as "Indians?" Please include a discussion of what is not included and if the differences between indigenous peoples are overshadowed by the historic "Indian" identity. When Columbus set out to discover a better route to the East Indies, he completely missed the mark and landed on another part of the world that was new to him. However he believed that he probably had landed in another part of the East Indies and he thus named all these people he found there as Indians. Due to the nature of his expedition he could not spend enough time with these indigenous people to distinguish who was who and what was the relation between these people and most importantly whether there were any significant differences between these people to warrant their classification as different peoples. It is only much later that missionaries and dedicated anthropologists

Human Trafficking Human trafficking which is commonly referred as â€Å"modern-day slavery† is a trade in humans in the form of prostitution, sexual exploitation, forced labor or even for the extraction of organs. Here in this country, people are being abducted, bought, and sold like slaves to be forced into all forms of servitude. The U.S Department of Justice stated that â€Å"human trafficking has become the second fastest growing criminal industry — just behind drug trafficking — with children accounting for roughly half of all victims† (Baldas, Human trafficking a growing crime in the U.S). It is not only happening in the States but it is also a worldwide phenomenon. To think that human trafficking may be happening even in our own neighborhood, for us being unaware as we go about our daily lives is unimaginable. Human traffickers generate billions of dollars per annum by victimizing countless people all around the world. Human trafficking is illegal in any way or anywh ere as it is a massive violation to human rights. People may still wonder that how can human trafficking still exist in the 21st century. There are various causes that make adults and children vulnerable to exploitation. However, human trafficking does not exist mainly because of the victims’ vulnerability to exploitation. Instead, just like drugs and arms trafficking, human trafficking is a market-driven industry which is based on the principles of supply and demand. Joyce Hart stated that â€Å"when there is a demand for services, human traffickers will eagerly fill it with slaves or very low-cost workers† (26). It is a highly sophisticated and organized crime industry with low risk and high profit, which are the main two factors that cause its demand to thrive. When the i... ...he 21st century, it is also expanding. Everyone should do their part in order to prevent more people being exploited and protect them. One of the main reasons that many of these traffickers are not being prosecuted is because a lot of victims are too traumatized or terrified to testify against their own abusers. Therefore, â€Å"police and criminal justice staff need standard working procedures to guarantee the physical safety of victims, protect their privacy and make it safe for them to testify against their abusers† (UNODC). Even for normal citizens, there are also ways to help fight against human trafficking such as contacting respective authorities if knowing of a potential human exploitation, changing purchasing options, or start a fundraiser and donate the funds to an anti-trafficking organization. These people need our help and together we can make a difference.

College Stress Essay

Jack’s heart pounds as he casts panicked looks around the classroom. He doesn’t recognize the professor, he doesn’t know any of the students, and he can’t even figure out what the subject is. In front of him is a test. At the very last minute his roommate awakens him. It’s only another anxiety dream. The very fact that dreams like Jack’s are common suggests that college is a stressful situation for young people. The cause of this stress can be academic, financial, and personal. Academic stress is common for college students. For many students, going to college is more than just attending classes and taking notes. They usually have a hard time understanding school guidelines and deciding what major they want to study. It is very stressful to read and understand all the school policies, especially the transfer instructions. It is even harder for student to make up their mind what major they should concentrate on. Choosing the right courses and making a schedule is another headache job that students have to go through. Students often find it very tough to decide what are the right classes to take that related to their major. It is also stressful to wake up in the morning and be one time for classes. Finally, preparing and taking mid-term and final exams are the most stressful time that student encounter for the entire semester. In a similar case to Jack, my friend, Som, who is a good student at City College, always gets nervous and stays up all night to study for his mid-term and final exams. Since, school requires students to maintain their GPA to a certain point in order for them to stay in school, passing the classes and getting good grades are one of the most concerning issues for a lot of students. In addition to academic stress, students often feel financial pressure. Most of the college students work part-time while attending college. They have more responsibilities than just maintaining their GPA. Paying for their school tuition and textbooks are the big two unavoidable expenses that they have to spend. Students often complain and feel frustrated about how much they have to pay for their textbooks and other materials related to their classes. Besides these expenses, students also have other financial responsibilities as well. Paying the rent, car payments and car insurance are stressful issues that students have to deal with. Like many other college students and myself, my girlfriend has to work two part-time jobs in order for her to have enough money to pay her bills. Buying clothes, movie tickets, gifts for friends’ birthdays are other pressures that students have to cop with while they are in school. Base on these expenses, it is pretty obvious that students must have some sort of incomes that they can rely on for the expeneses so that they can service in school and accomplish their dreams. Along with academic and financial worries, students also face personal pressures. For those who have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, they have to deal with their partner’s attitude and differences. For example, I have a friend who had a boyfriend when she was in college. She had to give up her time to go to a party with her boyfriend in stead of finishing up her assigments. She had to put up with his immature and jealous attitude who wanted her to tell him wherever she went. It was a personal stress for her that she had to put up with her boyfriend while receiving so much pressure from school. Getting along with their family members is a stressful thing to deal with if they live at home with their parents. For some they get homesick and miss their family members if they live far away from home. Another stressful thing for students is achieving their goals. They usually encounter pressure from their parents or relatives when asked when they are going to complete school. They are not sure if their achievements will meet their parent’s expectation. They afraid that they might not get a good job and make enough money to support themselves after they finish school. College students often encounter pressures and streeful situations while they are in school. Academic, financial and personal stress are not new to Jack, my girlfriend and my friend as well as many other students. They’ve experienced and are experiencing this pressures while they are working hard trying to make their dreams realized.
